Baník Lihota-pod-Vtáčnikom drew 1-1 with Malženiče in the second league's regular season third round on Saturday. The hosts took the lead just before half-time only to see their defender sent off moments later. And here's the thing — you'd expect a one-man side to fold, but Lihota held firm until Okunola's second-half equaliser.
The home side went ahead in the forty-fifth minute when N. Gorosito found the net. To be fair, it came after sustained pressure from the hosts, who had dominated possession in the opening spell. But the mood shifted sharply four minutes later when D. Ovsonka picked up a second yellow and was dismissed.
Malženiče made the most of their numerical advantage. L. Okunola levelled in the sixty-fifth minute, capitalising on the home side's disorganisation. Baník pushed for a winner but couldn't find the breakthrough, while Malženiče's visitors looked dangerous on the counter.
Statistics tell a close story. Lihota registered 106 attacks to Malženiče's 109, with both sides landing seven and six shots on target respectively. Possession was split almost evenly at 47 per cent to 53. The away side earned eleven corners to the hosts' five, but neither team could turn that into a decisive advantage.
The result keeps Lihota sixth with ten points from seven games, while Malženiče remain twelfth on seven. By then, both sides had shown they could trade blows without either side truly pulling away. Things came to a head in the second half, but the table barely moved.
