Dynamo Kyiv edged Karabakh 1-0 in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League on Wednesday evening. The result keeps the Ukrainian side's hopes alive after recent defeats against PAOK. M. Ponomarenko struck in the tenth minute, and that proved to be the difference.
By then the visitors had already established their grip on the ball. Karabakh finished with 61 per cent possession and 11 corners against Dynamo's four, yet they could muster only two shots on target. and here's the thing — they dallied on the ball in the final third without finding a way through.
Dynamo weathered the storm and held their nerve when things grew nervous. Karabakh's C. Makreckis saw red in the 91st minute after a second caution, and that left the hosts with a numerical advantage for the closing stages. T. Kedziora had picked up yellow earlier in the half.
