Falkenbergs hold nerve to see off Norrby 2-0
Falkenbergs beat Norrby 2-0 in the Superettan on Friday evening, staying in third place with 38 points after 22 games. L. Sangare opened the scoring early on, and A. Andersson added a late goal to end the match. The result keeps Falkenbergs three points clear of fourth place, while Norrby remain 12th with 23 points.
Sangare struck in the fourth minute, a sharp finish that settled the visitors before they could settle into their rhythm. And here's the thing — Falkenbergs had most of the possession at 51 per cent, but it was the efficiency that counted. Andersson's goal in the 90th minute ended a barren spell for the home side, though by then the outcome was beyond doubt.
Norrby had more attacks, 85 to 80, and a slightly higher shot accuracy at 30 per cent compared to 24 per cent. They also had three shots on target to Falkenbergs' four, but the difference came in conversion. Falkenbergs won five corners to five, and Norrby took two yellow cards — C. Axede and A. Sjoberg — while the hosts had none.
Substitutions shaped the second half. Falkenbergs brought on J. Bichis and K. Liimatainen together in the 59th minute, then added T. Stalheden shortly after. H. Kallstrom and L. Sangare came off for each other in the 71st minute, while F. Gustafsson, O. Lindberg and E. Mohammad all entered after the hour mark.
Falkenbergs' recent results show a side finding consistency — a 2-1 win over Gif Sundsvall and a 6-0 hammering of Laholm before the draw with United Nordic. Norrby, meanwhile, have won only four times in 22 games, though they drew 11 matches and most recently beat Orebro 3-1.
The final tally leaves Falkenbergs with 15 points from their last five games, while Norrby sit on 10 points from the same run. Falkenbergs cannot afford another slip if they want to close the gap on the top four, but this result at least keeps them in the hunt.
