Helsingborgs IF

Helsingborg's football has run through a single club for more than a century: red shirts, blue shorts, and a ground called Olympia that holds 16,000. The club itself dates to 4 June 1907, formed by a merger of two local sides, Svithiod and Stattena IF, and it stood among the clubs that founded Allsvenskan when the league began in 1924.

HIF went down in 1968, and by 1972 had fallen as far as the third tier, the lowest point in the club's history. It took until 1993, with Henrik Larsson in the side, to climb back to Allsvenskan.

Larsson went on to Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United before returning to Olympia in 2006 and lifting the Swedish Cup the following year; his number 17 has not been reissued since. Between his two spells at the club, under Åge Hareide, HIF won the league and cup double in 1999 and beat Inter Milan in Champions League qualifying — the club's only run to that competition's group stage.

A third double followed in 2011, paired with the Super Cup for a clean sweep of that season's domestic trophies, something no Swedish club had managed before. Further back, Otto Malm scored 735 goals in 500 appearances for HIF, and goalkeeper Kalle Svensson, capped 635 times, took bronze with Sweden at the 1950 World Cup.

Promoted back to Allsvenskan in 2019, HIF was relegated in 2020 and again in 2022, and has played in Superettan since, still working out the way back to the division it once helped build.
