Olympia opened in the summer of 1898, which puts it among the older grounds still in regular use in Swedish football. Helsingborgs IF did not exist yet when the gates first opened; the team formed nine years later, in 1907, and moved in after absorbing the local side Sättena, which had played there before it.

The name itself came about almost by accident. Organisers wanted to call the ground Idrott, but found the name already taken and settled on Olympia instead.

The bigger story here is the rebuild. Between 2014 and 2017, Olympia was largely torn down and reassembled: both end stands came out, replaced by new structures, and the old standing areas gave way to seats throughout. The work ran to roughly 408 million kronor and left capacity close to where it started, near 16,000, but with hospitality space the ground never had before.

Grass has been a point of pride at Helsingborg. The pitch went artificial for a spell after 2007, but by the time the rebuild had settled in, the club was back on natural turf — and vocal about it.

Nothing since has come close to the crowd that packed in on 14 May 1954 for a match against Malmö FF: 26,154 spectators.
