Băcău opened their Liga II campaign with a 3-0 victory over Ştefăneşti on Saturday evening. The result came in the first match of the regular season at the home ground. Romario Moise gave the hosts an early lead, and the game never really recovered for the visitors.
Moise struck just six minutes in to set the tone. Ştefăneşti survived the opening exchanges but the pressure told. Tomas Lacerda added a second in the 71st minute, and there was a third goal in stoppage time at 90+3. A yellow card was shown to one of the hosts in the 87th minute.
And here's the thing — the statistics don't tell the whole story. Băcău held 55 per cent possession and registered five shots on target against three for the visitors. Ştefăneşti managed six shots off target but couldn't find the net after the first goal. To be fair, they had their chances in the wide areas.
The win moves Băcău up the table from seventh place. They now sit on 11 points from six games with three victories, two draws and one defeat. Ştefăneşti remain in 17th position on six points, with two wins from six matches and no draws. By then they were out of sight by half-time, really.
Băcău's recent form has been mixed. They beat Thyrgu-Secuiesk 4-0 in their last outing but lost 1-0 to Gloria Bistriţa before that. Earlier results included a heavy 7-2 victory over Metalul Bucharest and a 1-3 defeat to Oţelul. Ştefăneşti ended a barren spell with a 3-0 win against Urban Titu last time out.
