Gangwon drew 2:2 with Gwangju at Chuncheon Songam Sports Town on Wednesday in the K-League 1 Regular Season. The result left the home side second on 22 points while Gwangju remained twelfth on 10. Moon Min-seo opened the scoring early and added a penalty before half-time. M. Tuci and Kim Dong-Hyun struck late to complete the draw.
Moon Min-seo broke the deadlock in the fifth minute, a quick burst that caught the visitors off guard. By then the match had already settled into a rhythm Gangwon would try to control. The home side doubled their advantage with a penalty in the 45th minute, extending their lead before the break. Gwangju had to find a way back into a game they dominated on paper but struggled to translate.
The second half turned on the dismissal of Hong Chul in the 68th minute. Gwangju were reduced to ten men and Kim Woo-jin came on to cover the gap. Gangwon pressed, but the visitors held firm long enough to earn a point. Joung Ji-hun also entered the fray for Gwangju that same minute, a mid-game reshuffle that did not change the shape of the contest.
And here's the thing — Gangwon owned the ball but did not always know what to do with it. They registered 127 attacks against 54 for Gwangju, yet the away side took fewer shots and hit closer to target. Ten shots on target for the hosts yielded two goals, while five on target produced two for the visitors. Possession sat at 67 per cent for Gangwon and 33 per cent for Gwangju, but the scoreboard told a different story.
The result means Gangwon stay in the top half with eight wins, eight draws and three losses from 19 games. Gwangju sit 12th with one win, seven draws and 11 defeats. The hosts had lost their previous outing 3:0 to Daejeon Hana Citizen, while the visitors had dropped a 1:0 away game to Incheon United. This draw at least gave them something to build on.
