Albufeira crushed by Tondela in Portuguese Cup
Tondela made short work of Importador de Albufeira with a 5-1 victory in the Round of 128 of the Portuguese Cup on Saturday evening. The result was never in doubt after the first quarter, and by then it was clear this was a mismatch. The visitors went through comfortably, adding to a run that has seen them win three of their last five matches.
Van der Heide gave Albufeira hope with an early strike in the fourth minute, but Felix levelled before the hosts could recover. Bebeto put Tondela ahead 2-1 just after the quarter-hour mark, and here's the thing — the visitors never looked back after that. Marocas doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time with a goal in the 46th minute.
The second half brought no surprises. Farru made it four in the 65th minute, and Joao Lima added a fifth shortly after. Albufeira's response was minimal; they managed only two shots on target all game. The hosts had more attacks overall, but quality over quantity told in this one.
The statistics tell the story clearly enough. Tondela held 56 percent possession and fired six shots on target compared to Albufeira's two. The visitors also won eight corners to one, and their 118 attacks dwarfed the home side's 99. It was not a game that needed much analysis.
Tondela advance to the next round with a comfortable margin. Albufeira's recent form offers little comfort — they have lost four of their last five matches, including heavy defeats to Luletano and Benfica B. This result keeps Tondela on track while Albufeira face a long winter.
