Pogoń Grodzisk-Mazowiecki took all three points away from Medź Legnica on Saturday with a tight 1-0 win in the I Liga's regular season. The match opened at 13:30 and stayed that way, thanks to a first-half goal that shifted the balance from the start.
R. Majewski found the net in the eighth minute, before the home side had settled into a rhythm. By then, the visitors had already shown they knew how to press, and the goal gave them something to hold onto. It was a sharp finish that caught the defence off guard.
Meditations came thick and fast after the break. D. Stanclik, W. Hajda, O. Szymoniak and D. Jaron all saw time on the pitch, while R. Majewski was brought off in the 84th minute. N. Niski picked up a yellow in the 75th minute, and K. Fucak's red card in stoppage time ended any late hopes of a comeback.
And here's the thing about the numbers — Medź Legnica had 61 per cent possession and 124 attacks, yet only managed two shots on target against nine for the visitors. They missed 18 shots wide and gave away a red card when the game was already decided. To be fair, Pogoń made their chances count.
The result moves Pogoń to the top of the table with 15 points from seven games, one ahead of Medź Legnica's 14. The visitors remain unbeaten, while the hosts have now lost their first match of the season. Things came to a head at the end, but the damage was done long before.
