Rayong and Ratchaburi played out a 1-1 draw in the Thai League 1 Regular Season on Sunday. The result keeps Rayong second on seven points after three games, while Ratchaburi remain ninth with four points from the same number of outings. Both clubs had won their opening fixture, so this stalemate interrupted momentum for each side.
E. Panya gave the hosts the lead in the 34th minute, a moment that shifted the tempo. By then Rayong were second to everything in possession, but they made up for it with efficiency. Ratchaburi responded with a penalty goal from Joao Felipe in the 73rd minute, and the match settled into a rhythm neither team could break.
There were plenty of changes on both benches. Rayong brought on C. Pombuppha and A. Amornlerdsak in the 46th minute, followed by three others at the hour mark. Ratchaburi also reshuffled, replacing E. Panya and adding P. Phatthanaphon and Joao Afonso. The substitutions suggest both coaches were looking for something different without being reckless.
Rayong won the physical battle despite having just a third of the ball. They made 22 clearances to Ratchaburi's ten and won six tackles against seven. Their shots accuracy sat at 44 per cent, and they registered seven shots on target. Ratchaburi had 65 per cent possession but managed only four shots on target with 36 per cent accuracy. To be fair, possession doesn't always translate into chances, and neither side created a big opportunity.
The yellow cards came at intervals rather than in clusters. R. Mesa saw one in the 13th minute, Bruno Leite in the 45th plus two, and C. Poomkaew in the 89th. The discipline held up throughout, and the referee didn't need to reach for a red card. The match stayed clean despite the competition.
For Rayong, the draw maintains their position at the top of the early standings. They beat Chonburi 3-2 and Prakauap 1-0 before this, so three points from five remains solid. Ratchaburi's result leaves them four points behind the leaders with one game in hand on their recent form. The standings don't move much after three rounds, but the pattern is beginning to emerge.
