Match report
USID and Etltown Town played out a 2:2 draw in the First Division on Thursday evening, a result that keeps the hosts second while the visitors remain seventh. The match opened quickly, with O'Connor finding the net in the fourth minute before Smith levelled just before half-time. By then the pattern was set — USID would control possession, Etltown would press higher and look for transitions.
And here's the thing about the second half: Akinrintayo put USID ahead in the fifty-seventh minute, only for Ferry to answer in the seventy-eighth. The hosts had five shots on target from seven attempts, while the visitors managed just two on target from nine attempts. There is unrest in the dressing room when you camp in the final third but cannot finish.
To be fair, Etltown Town generated more attacks — ninety-seven against seventy-seven — even though they held less possession. The hosts switched off at the back at times, giving away too many cheap fouls, and the yellow cards from Holohan and McManus told part of that story. The visitors got dragged out of position when USID worked the ball wide, but they also failed to capitalise on their openings.
Coaching decisions came into play around the hour mark. USID brought on Norval, Cleary and O'Connor in quick succession, while Etltown responded with Grogan and later Akinrintayo and Goad. The substitutions did not change the outcome, though they shifted the tempo in the closing stages.
USID sit on forty-eight points from thirty games, fourteen wins and six draws, while Etltown Town have forty points with eleven victories. The hosts have not won since, while the visitors are weighing up a move after three consecutive draws. This result extends that run without altering either position in the table.
