Wolfsberger AC — Voitsberg: 2:1, Friendlies Clubs

Wolfsberger secured a 2:1 win against Voitsberg in a Club Friendlies encounter on Thursday evening. The hosts went ahead inside the first half and held firm despite a late equaliser attempt. Two yellow cards punctuated the closing stages as tension mounted.

An own goal at 32' gave Wolfsberger the lead, and P. Verhounig doubled it a minute later at 33'. Voitsberg pulled one back at 52' before the home side's grit showed through. A yellow card at 39' and another at 86' marked the disciplinary tally for the visitors.

Wolfsberger edged possession at 53 per cent and registered 109 attacks compared to Voitsberg's 98. Both sides won five corners, though the hosts took more throw-ins at 27 to the visitors' 22. Free kicks favoured the away team 18 to 13, while goal kicks told a different story with 13 for Wolfsberger against seven for Voitsberg.

The result offered some relief for Wolfsberger, who had only managed a draw with Parndorf in their last five friendlies. They lost 1:4 to Ried and 0:3 to Rapid Wien recently, and also fell to LASK Linz 1:3. A 0:0 with Grazer AK was their only other point.

Voitsberg arrived with mixed form, including a 2:1 win over Austria Salzburg and a 1:1 with Wacker Innsbruck. They had since dropped points in frustrating fashion, losing 1:4 to Sturm Graz and 2:3 to Lipfering, and suffering a heavy 1:5 defeat to BV Linz.
