Voitsberg

Jakob Jantscher joined ASK Voitsberg in 2024, by then a Second League side rebuilding around a squad that had just come up from the Regionalliga.

The club was founded in 1921 and has never played its home matches anywhere but the Hans-Blümel-Stadion. The black-and-white shirts and the ASK name came back once the war ended, and the club has kept both since.

Voitsberg's history sits mostly at regional level, and the years that matter are the ones that took it higher. In 1982/83 the club won the Steiermark Landesliga and then a promotion play-off to reach the Austrian second division, where the following season it finished 12th of 16. It took until 2023/24 to get back into the Regionalliga title picture, and Voitsberg has now won that division twice in three years, in 2023/24 and again in 2025/26, each time going straight back into the 2. Liga.

Their fixture with SV Lafnitz is billed locally as the Steirer-Derby, and it has not lacked for goals lately — Voitsberg won 2:1 in October 2024 and 3:1 the following April. Off the pitch, the club has been run since May 2022 by Michael Münzer, a businessman who also serves as vice-president at Sturm Graz, alongside Voitsberg's mayor, Bernd Osprian.

Jantscher's arrival remains the one that people in Voitsberg point to — a full international choosing the Hans-Blümel-Stadion over clubs several divisions higher.
