Chelsea Stun Leeds 6-3 After Trailing 0-2

Chelsea trailed Leeds 0-2 at half-time in the League Cup third round on Wednesday and won 6-3, scoring four goals in 12 minutes after the break through a pair of half-time substitutes.

Tarik Muharemović put Leeds ahead on 24 minutes, and Brenden Aaronson made it 2-0 straight after the interval. Cole Palmer, sent on at half-time alongside Morgan Rogers, pulled one back from the penalty spot on 53 minutes and added a second on 55, this one set up by Rogers. Pedro Neto, also introduced after the break, put Chelsea ahead on 60 minutes with another Rogers assist. Danny Welbeck made it 4-2 on 65 minutes. Dominic Calvert-Lewin briefly reduced the arrears for Leeds on 75 minutes before Valentín Barco scored on 80 minutes and set up Welbeck's second in stoppage time.

Rogers finished with three assists, by his own count four, and Palmer's brace took his tally for the night to two goals. After the match, Rogers and Palmer gave a joint flash interview to Sky Sports, and Rogers needled his friend over the man-of-the-match award.

"I've got four assists! That's crazy. He scored from a penalty. That's a crime. Don't even mention me, I'm just a spectator!"

As reported after the match, Alonso praised the impact of the Palmer-Rogers substitution in sparking the turnaround. Chelsea's next fixture is away to Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.
