Jurrien Timber nears Arsenal return for Sunderland trip

Mikel Arteta says Timber has trained all week and could feature at Sunderland, while Mosquera remains a doubt after missing the last two games.

Jurrien Timber is close to a first appearance since the Champions League final, Mikel Arteta has confirmed, with the Netherlands full back training all week and in contention for Arsenal's trip to Sunderland on Saturday.

Timber travelled with the squad for the midweek 1-0 win at Napoli but did not feature.

"Let's see," Arteta said. "We have another training session today. He's been training with us for a few days. Let's see."

Cristhian Mosquera is "really well" by Arteta's account, though the manager suggested the defender could again miss out after sitting out the wins over Chelsea and Napoli with a knock.

The Stadium of Light has not been kind to them lately: Sunderland ended an 11-match winning run there last November, Brian Brobbey equalising in injury time after the Gunners had led.

"Last year we dropped points there and in the last minute," Arteta said. "We experienced and learned a lot from that game. Tomorrow we will discuss many things we want to be aware of and where we want to take the game and how to nullify their strengths."
