John Stones sidelined three to four weeks with thigh injury

Inter confirmed a muscle strain in Stones' left thigh flexor, sustained in the win over Udinese, ruling him out of the Roma match and possibly beyond.

Inter have confirmed a hamstring strain for John Stones, the 32-year-old centre-back, who faces three to four weeks out.

The 32-year-old picked up the injury during Inter's 5-3 win over Udinese on Monday night, his first appearance as a starter for the club since arriving from Manchester City in the summer.

"John Stones underwent clinical and diagnostic tests this morning at the Istituto Humanitas in Rozzano," Inter said. "The tests revealed a hamstring strain. His condition will be reassessed over the coming days."

Stones will miss Saturday's fixture against Roma, along with Hakan Calhanoglu, who did not even feature against Udinese after picking up a right adductor strain. According to Sport Mediaset, Inter hope to have Stones back after the October break, when Parma visit San Siro on 10 October. Italian broadcasters have not ruled out missing the rest of the season.

Stones' spell on the sidelines leaves Inter short of cover at the back.
