Tyrell Malacia signs for FC Cincinnati
The left-back left Manchester United as a free agent and turned down La Liga, Brazilian and Middle Eastern suitors to join MLS side FC Cincinnati.
Tyrell Malacia has signed for FC Cincinnati,
The left-back put pen to paper on a contract running to the middle of 2027, with a club option for a further year. He turned down interest from clubs in the lower half of La Liga, in Brazil and in the Middle East before opting for Major League Soccer.
Malacia spent four seasons at Old Trafford, starting well before a series of injuries reduced him to sporadic appearances. Manchester United blocked a proposed move to Istanbul Başakşehir last winter, and he ran down his contract before leaving as a free agent this year.
A recent conversation with KNVB director Nigel de Jong is said to have revived that ambition after a difficult few seasons. At Cincinnati, Malacia wants to show he can get through a long run of matches without injury; if he manages that, a route back to Europe remains open.
His first assignment comes quickly.
