Marcus Rashford doubtful for England after Man United draw

Marcus Rashford is a doubt for England's Nations League fixtures after being taken off in the 77th minute of Manchester United's 1-1 draw at Fulham on Sunday.

Joshua Zirkzee replaced him. United were a goal down at the time, after a Lisandro Martinez own goal, and Rashford had shown no obvious sign of injury on the pitch. He had taken a knock in the first half and was fouled by Timothy Castagne after the break. Metro reports a hip problem.

Michael Carrick confirmed there was an issue. "We had to bring him off as he had a bit of an issue," the United head coach said. He added: "Marcus was a threat. He could have had a couple of goals for us today. He's another one who is getting himself in good positions, it's just not quite falling for him. It will."

Yahoo Sports says Rashford is expected to withdraw from the England squad for the matches against Spain (twice), Croatia and Czechia. Metro says Kobbie Mainoo, also in Thomas Tuchel's squad, could pull out too.

Benjamin Sesko did not travel to Craven Cottage. Carrick said the Slovenia striker has a recurrence of the shin injury he picked up last season.

On Monday morning, goalkeeper Karl Darlow withdrew from the Wales squad. Craig Bellamy has called up Leicester City's David Cornell in his place. It is not clear what the problem is, as Darlow, 35, was on the bench at Fulham. He joined on a free transfer from Leeds United in the summer and made his debut in the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton last week.

Senne Lammens is the first-choice keeper, but third-choice Tom Heaton is out with an ankle injury. That leaves United thin behind him if Darlow is out for any length of time.

Rashford has not scored or assisted in 435 minutes this season. "He was quiet again today in his body language, just the glum face," Owen said. "He just doesn't seem to be loving his football which has been a permanent frustration with Marcus."

United have won one of their first five league games, their joint-worst start to a Premier League season. The three-week break may help. Metro says Carlos Baleba, Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt are all expected to be fit again by the end of it.

If Rashford does drop out of the England squad, the rest could suit a player who has 60 goals for the club but none yet this season. Carrick's bigger concern may be the goalkeeping cover and Sesko's shin.
