Andy Robertson: Liverpool 'didn't care about football' after Jota's death
The Tottenham defender says grief over Diogo Jota's death engulfed Liverpool last season, leaving new signings Wirtz and Isak unable to settle.
Andy Robertson has said Liverpool's squad "didn't care about football" for much of last season as the club tried to come to terms with the death of Diogo Jota.
Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were killed in a car crash in northern Spain in July 2025, a week after Robertson had attended the forward's wedding. Jota had lifted the Premier League title with Liverpool only two months earlier.
Robertson, now at Tottenham after nine years on Merseyside, said the grief in the dressing room made it especially hard for that summer's arrivals. Liverpool paid a combined £241million for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, and by Robertson's account both spent months struggling to settle.
The numbers back up his description of a season that fell apart. Liverpool lost nine of 12 league games between September and November and finished fifth, well short of defending their title.
