David Alaba set to join Udinese as free agent

David Alaba has reached a verbal agreement with Udinese and is close to putting pen to paper on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 34-year-old defender has been without a club since his contract at Real Madrid expired in June. Romano reports the two sides will now proceed with the formal steps needed to complete the move.

Alaba made just 16 appearances for Real Madrid last season, and 11 in La Liga, picking up a booking along the way. Across his time at the Bernabéu he scored five goals and added nine assists in 132 games in all competitions. Inter, Milan and Juventus were all credited with interest over the summer, but none of that produced a deal.

Udinese sit 13th in Serie A with four points from five matches, their goals so far shared between Arthur Atta, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Kingsley Osezele Ehizibue, who have three, three and two respectively. The club play their home fixtures at the Stadio Friuli, which holds 25,144.

Alaba's honours list runs to four Champions Leagues and ten Bundesliga titles, won across spells at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
