Eric Cantona: I wouldn't have joined Man Utd under Ratcliffe

Eric Cantona says he would not have joined Manchester United had Sir Jim Ratcliffe owned the club in 1992. The former forward was responding to Ratcliffe's recent remarks on immigration.

In a BBC interview, Ratcliffe, 73, said the United Kingdom was "on the slide" and that "nobody's tough enough to deal with the immigration problem". He also named immigration and high taxes as issues politicians should address. Ratcliffe has previously called Cantona his favourite United player, and Cantona's "seagulls follow the trawler" line gave Ratcliffe's holding company, Trawlers Ltd, its name.

United supporter Pete Boyle asked Cantona on his TikTok channel whether he would have signed under Ratcliffe. Cantona, 60, replied with a flat refusal.

Cantona moved to Old Trafford from Leeds in 1992 and won four league titles in five seasons before retiring in 1997.

The row lands while United, under Michael Carrick, sit 12th in the Premier League and are idle during the international break. The club's latest accounts, according to the Mirror, show debt has risen.
