Cristiano Ronaldo left Portugal's training camp in Copenhagen on Monday evening, hours after skipping the squad's session at Parken Stadium. His private jet touched down in the Danish capital at 22:14 local time and was due to depart again around 23:00.

Jorge Jesus had told reporters at his pre-match press conference that Ronaldo would take part in training. He did not. The captain left the stadium immediately after the rest of the squad went out for the session and then decided to leave the camp altogether.

According to SIC Notícias, the aircraft that left Copenhagen was Ronaldo's own. At training, Jesus led the squad through the usual opening run before heading back to the dressing room alone; he returned a few minutes later.

Portugal sit second in their World Cup group on 5 points from three matches. Ronaldo has scored three of the side's goals this campaign, with João Félix and Gonçalo Ramos on two apiece.

No details have been given of what was discussed between Ronaldo and the federation president, or of the match for which Portugal were preparing in Copenhagen. Ronaldo has said only that he will explain his reasons "in time."
