Afonso

That is where Afonso found himself in March 2025, top scorer at Primavera SP ahead of a quarter-final against Santo André in the Paulista Série A2.

He came into the game through the youth ranks at Fortaleza before moving to the academy at Guarani in Campinas, and between 2012 and 2014 he made first-team appearances there. The years that followed took him around Brazil — ABC, Santo André, Cascavel, Confiança, Floresta — until he joined Primavera SP in 2025.

Primavera reached the final of the Paulista Série A2 and lost it, going down 2-1 to Capivariano in the second leg to finish as runners-up. The club also reached the final of the Copa Paulista, where XV de Piracicaba stood in the way. Earlier in that competition Afonso was named in the team of the round after matchday four.

The most anxious moment of his time at the club had nothing to do with results. Afonso lost consciousness during a match and was carried off on a stretcher. He was taken to the Albert Einstein hospital for examination; no serious injury was found, and he returned to the squad shortly afterwards.
