Copa do Brasil (Brazil) 2026/27: Table and Fixtures

The Copa do Brasil operates as the primary national knockout cup competition in Brazilian football, established by the Brazilian Football Confederation in 1989. Its creation followed a significant schism in the sport, designed to provide a competitive path for clubs excluded from other national tournaments. The tournament holds the status of the second-most prestigious domestic title, ranking just below the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A league.

Unlike the league format, which relies on accumulated points, this competition is a pure knockout structure. This system allows for notable upsets where lower-division teams can eliminate top-tier giants. The 2026 edition features an expanded field of 126 teams, a significant increase from previous years. Participants qualify through state championship performances, the CBF Ranking, and results from earlier national competitions. The current season introduces nine phases. While earlier rounds utilize two-legged ties, the final is contested as a single match.

Success in the tournament carries significant rewards. The winner qualifies for the Copa Libertadores and the Supercopa do Brasil. The runner-up secures a place in the Copa Sul-Americana. Cruzeiro remains the most successful club in the competition's history with six titles. The current champion is Corinthians, who secured victory in the 2025 edition.

The competition differs from regional state championships, which are older and now considered less prestigious. It also contrasts with the league system by allowing multiple entry points for clubs from all 26 states and the Federal District. The format changes annually, with the 2026 edition marking a shift in the final stage structure. The tournament has adopted various sponsorship names over the years, currently known as the Betano Cup. It serves as a crucial avenue for clubs to reach continental competitions.
