About the player
Billy van Duijl came through the ranks at FC Volendam, working through the reserve side before making five appearances for the first team. AZ Alkmar signed him as a free agent in the summer of 2024, and he spent his first season in Alkmaar with Jong AZ in the Eerste Divisie, making 47 appearances there before a first-team opportunity opened up in 2026.
Van Duijl scored his first senior goal against PSV in March 2026, and within weeks he had a place in the squad for AZ's run to the KNVB Cup final, where he came on as a substitute in the 69th minute as AZ beat NEC 5-1. He followed that with a second piece of silverware, the Johan Cruyff Shield, as AZ beat PSV 4-0.
Extending his contract to run until 2031, Van Duijl has also featured for the Netherlands at youth level, with caps for the under-18 and under-19 sides.
