About the player

Erik Janža hit the hardest goal of the Euro 2024 group stage. It was not the first time he had scored against that opponent, as he also found the net against Denmark in qualifying. He has won 33 caps for Slovenia and scored three international goals, having first played for the national team in 2014.

Janža came through the youth ranks at Puconci and Mura 05, and stayed with Mura 05 for his first senior years, making 76 appearances. Domžale followed, with 66 more. At Maribor he played 33 games and won the Slovenian Cup in 2015–16. His move abroad to Viktoria Plzeň brought only three appearances, and he spent that spell on loan at Pafos, where he played 33 times. A season at Osijek added 19 appearances before he left for Poland.

Górnik Zabrze signed him on a free transfer in 2019, and the left-footed defender has stayed. He has made more than 200 appearances for the club and has been its captain since the 2022–23 season. In 2025–26 he was part of the Górnik side that won the Polish Cup, the first major honour of his time in Zabrze.
