Gonzalo Ariel Sosa

In 2021 Gonzalo Sosa scored 23 goals in the Chilean Primera División, sharing the golden boot with Cristián Sampedri and equalling a Deportes Melipilla club record set by Mario Araya in 1993 — a mark reached in a season the striker had also helped to bring about, having top-scored in the second tier with 17 goals the year before to lift the club into the top flight.

Sosa's route there ran through the lower reaches of Argentine football. After Atlanta came Barracas Central, Colegiales, Sportivo Italiano, Gimnasia y Esgrima of Concepción del Uruguay and Guaraní Antonio Franco, every move made as a free agent. He crossed to Chile in 2017 with Magallanes in the Primera B, finishing as the club's leading scorer in both his seasons there — five goals in 2017, ten in 2018 — before joining Melipilla that December. Across his time at Melipilla he scored 52 goals in 84 league matches.

The 2021 season also produced the episode most often quoted back at him. Rowing with a referee, Sosa answered an insult with the line: "Shut up, we'll take the Falklands off you."

His form drew interest from Colo-Colo and Universidad Católica, but in December 2021 he turned both down for Mazatlán FC in Liga MX, where he played 29 matches in 2022 and scored five. Chile pulled him back within a year: ten goals in 26 games for Audax Italiano in 2023, eight in 22 for Palestino in 2024, then nine in 26 for Ñublense in 2025.
