About the player
Gonçalo Sousa came through FC Porto's academy, joining the club's youth system in 2016 as a boy from Ermesinde and working his way up through the age groups over the best part of a decade. That patience paid off on 4 May 2024, when he made his first-team debut for Porto, coming on as a substitute in the 83rd minute against Chaves in a match the home side won 3-0.
The following season Sousa split his time between the first team and Porto B, the club's reserve side, as he continued to build his experience at senior level. He has also represented Portugal's under-20 side, appearing six times for the youth national team.
In 2025 his path took him away from Porto for the first time since childhood, with a move to Amarante FC. From there, Sousa agreed a loan to Turkish club Kocaelispor for the 2026/27 season, a deal that includes an option to make the transfer permanent.
