About the player
Gonzalo Larrazábal grew up on the outskirts of the game before ever putting on a professional shirt: in interviews he has recalled his grandfather, a Danubio supporter, cycling him to training as a boy. His own path ran through River Plate Montevideo instead, where he came through the youth ranks before making the step up.
The move that changed his career came in January 2023, when he joined Uruguay Montevideo in the Segunda División. It was there that he first showed what he could do in senior football, playing 24 matches and scoring six goals in his debut season.
Deportivo Maldonado brought him into the Primera División, though his first year at the club, in 2024, amounted to a single appearance. Across the current campaign he has featured in nine league matches, four of them starts, scoring twice. His passing has been reliable rather than incisive — just over 61% completion — and he has shown a willingness to take players on, succeeding with four of his five dribble attempts. He has yet to pick up a single card in Primera División football.
Gonzalo Larrazábal has not been called into any of Uruguay's national teams, and no individual or team honours appear on his record so far. What stands out instead is the trajectory: he is now, gradually, doing the same at Maldonado.
