About the player
Guilherme Araújo Soares came through the Sporting Braga academy, joining the club as a child.
That loan, to UD Oliveirense in the 2023–24 season, gave him his first sustained run of first-team football, and he made 28 league appearances for the club. He left Braga for good in 2024, moving to Romania to join ACSM Politehnica Iași as a free agent. He settled quickly there, making 33 appearances and scoring three goals over the course of the campaign.
Soares stayed in Romanian football when his contract at Iași ended, signing for Petrolul Ploiești in July 2025 on a free transfer and putting pen to paper on a deal running to 2027. He has featured regularly for Petrolul since, with eight league appearances so far.
