About the player
Huachen Zhang came through the Shanghai Luckystar youth set-up before joining the Shanghai SIPG academy in November 2014, after the club took over Luckystar's youth team. He earned his first-team promotion in 2017 under André Villas-Boas, and it was at Shanghai Port that he built his career, winning the Chinese Super League title twice, in 2018 and 2023.
A loan spell at Nantong Zhiyun in the 2020 season gave him regular football away from the capital's spotlight before he returned to Shanghai Port. In February 2024, after years at the same club, he moved on to Changchun Yatai.
Zhang made one appearance for China's under-16 side at the 2014 AFC U-16 Asian Championship, an early taste of international football that has not since been repeated at senior level.
Now with Dalian Zhixing, the midfielder wears the number 8 shirt, carrying with him the experience of two league titles won during his formative years in Shanghai.
