About the player
Julian Álvarez arrived at Atlético Madrid in August 2024 in a deal worth €95 million, made up of a €75 million fixed fee plus €20 million in add-ons — a club-record departure for Manchester City.
Álvarez was born in Calchín, in Río Segundo, Córdoba province, Argentina. He started out at Atlético Calchín before joining River Plate's academy in 2016, and made his senior debut for the club in 2018. In January 2022 he returned to River Plate on loan for the first half of that season, a transfer worth around £18.5 million that went through in July 2022.
At Manchester City he built a career that included silverware with the club, before the move to Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2024. He has also represented Argentina at international level and has won honours with the national team as well as with River Plate and Manchester City.
At Atlético Madrid, Álvarez wears the number 19 shirt.
