About the player
Portugal's second tier ended for Académico Viseu with a second-place finish in Liga Portugal 2, and with it promotion to the Primeira Liga after a 37-year absence. João Guilherme played his part in that 2025/26 campaign, the first season of a stay he has now committed to until 30 June 2029.
The route there ran through most of Brazilian football's lower and regional divisions. Born in Teresina, in the state of Piauí, the forward — who has also been used as an attacking midfielder — had a longer spell at Retro between 2022 and 2023.
What followed was a run of short contracts.
He is right-footed and stands 180 cm. Fees for the transfers between the Brazilian clubs were never made public, which is unremarkable at that level of the game — much of that market moves on free transfers and short deals, and players accumulate badges quickly.
