About the player
Katherine Ann Lund arrived at Racing Louisville FC in 2021 without having played a first-team NWSL minute, taken fifth overall by the club in the 2020 expansion draft after a spell at Washington Spirit produced no appearances. Within two seasons she had become the club's most important player, culminating in a run to the 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup final, where she made nine saves in a 2-0 defeat to North Carolina Courage.
That tournament run also brought her the Field of Vision Golden Glove for the league's best goals-against-expected-goals differential and a place in the Challenge Cup all-tournament team. A save-of-the-week honour in May 2023 preceded a finalist nomination for NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, alongside a nod for the Just Women's Sports equivalent award — recognition of a goalkeeper who had gone from an unused squad member to one of the league's most reliable shot-stoppers within three years.
Before turning professional, Lund played college soccer at TCU from 2016 to 2018 and finished her university career at Arkansas in 2019. She has not been capped by the United States at senior or youth international level, though she has featured in discussions of the wider USWNT player pool.
Lund spent five seasons at Racing Louisville before signing a three-year contract with Chicago Stars FC in December 2025, taking her through to 2028. Katie Lund, as she is known in team sheets — she has also played under the name Katie Atkinson since marrying — now takes the number 27 shirt in Chicago.
