Maitane López

Maitane López came through the youth ranks with the Spain national team before her club career took her across four different sides in the Spanish top flight. She was part of the squad that won the European Under-17 Championship in 2011, scoring once in nine matches, and returned two years later to take silver at the Under-19 Euros.

Her senior career began at UD Collerense, where she stayed three seasons and scored 23 goals in 88 appearances before Levante UD Femenino signed her in 2015. She spent five seasons there, the longest spell of her career, making 123 appearances. Spells at Real Sociedad and Atlético Madrid followed, and it was at Atlético that she added a trophy to her résumé, helping the club lift the Copa de la Reina in the 2022/23 season.

López earned her first senior cap for Spain in 2021, appearing in a friendly against Morocco.

In July 2023 she moved to the United States as a free agent, signing with NJ/NY Gotham FC. The switch paid off almost immediately: Gotham FC won the NWSL championship that year, with López making 21 appearances and scoring once during the campaign.

She left Gotham FC in December 2024 for Chicago Red Stars. Since arriving, she has become a regular fixture in midfield, featuring in 22 matches for her new club, though she has yet to find the net there.
