About the player
Every Bulgarian goalkeeper's path to a first-team shirt runs through the reserves, and Lyubomir Vasilev took his own club's system. He came up through Botev Vratsa's youth ranks, joining the academy at fifteen, and by 2020 he had earned a place in the first-team squad.
That dual track — training with the seniors, playing for the reserves — lasted three years before Botev Vratsa judged him ready to step away from home.
Since then Vasilev has been back in Botev Vratsa's fold, wearing the number 98 shirt. He has also featured for Bulgaria at youth level, with call-ups across the under-15, under-17 and under-18 age groups.
