About the player
Martín Yamir Ortega made his name on the right side of defence, working his way up through Quilmes before establishing himself over three seasons at the club. Between 2019 and 2022 he took part in around sixty official matches and scored three goals, laying the foundation for a move to Tigre.
The switch to Tigre in 2022 marked the busiest stretch of his career so far. Over four seasons he made close to seventy-five appearances across all competitions, adding goals in the league as well as in cup and Copa Sudamericana fixtures, and settling in as a regular in the back line.
His contract at Tigre ran out in 2026, and Ortega arrived at Newell's Old Boys as a free agent that March, ahead of the Torneo Apertura. Since the move he has featured in seven matches for the Rosario club, without finding the net yet.
Ortega has also passed through Argentina's under-20 setup earlier in his career.
