About the player
Marco Esteban started out at Astur CF before moving into Real Oviedo's academy in 2017. By May 2023, at just 16, he was already the youngest regular starter anywhere in Spanish football — La Liga, Segunda División, Primera RFEF or Segunda RFEF — having built up more than 488 minutes as a starter for Real Oviedo Vetusta in the Segunda Federación.
A centre-back by trade, Esteban made his debut for the Vetusta side in February 2023 and continued to develop there, going on to make 99 appearances and score five goals for the B team. His breakthrough with the first team came in January 2024, when he was included for a Segunda División match against SD Amorebieta, and he has made two appearances for the senior side since. Real Oviedo rewarded his progress with a contract extension running to 2028.
Esteban wore the number 17 shirt with the B team before switching to his current number as he settled into the wider first-team picture.
