About the player
Matheus de Mello Costa broke into professional football in Brazil with Democrata-GV before moving to Real SC, and within two years had crossed the Atlantic to join Leixões SC in Portugal.
After that spell ended, he returned to Brazil in 2024 to sign for Botafogo-SP, closing the loop on a career that had started in the same country.
In 2025 Costa moved again, this time to Angola, joining Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, known as Petro Atlético. The transfer took him outside the two footballing markets, Brazil and Portugal, that had defined his career until then.
