R. Morinigo

Rodrigo Morínigo came through Libertad's academy in Asunción and never had to leave the club to make it. He made his first-team debut in April 2018 against Sportivo Luqueño, thrown on as a substitute for the injured Iván Ramírez, but the step up to a regular jersey was slow. For three seasons he sat behind Martín Silva and Carlos Servín, taking whatever minutes came his way rather than a starting place.

The opening he had waited years for arrived in March 2024, when an injury to Silva pushed Morínigo into the goal on a permanent basis. He held on to it. Four months later, in July 2024, Libertad rewarded him with a new three-year contract, confirmation that the club now saw him as their first-choice goalkeeper rather than cover.

With Libertad he has collected a run of domestic honours: Apertura titles in 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, the Clausura in 2023, the Paraguayan Cup in 2019, 2023 and 2024, and the Paraguayan Super Cup in 2023 and 2025.

The step up to international football came in June 2024, when he debuted for Paraguay at the Copa América against Colombia, a match his side lost 2-1. He added a second appearance at the tournament.

Fitness has occasionally interrupted his run in goal. In August 2025 he picked up a thigh injury in a league match against Deportivo Recoleta, leaving his availability for Libertad's Copa Libertadores last-16 tie against River Plate in doubt.
