Rafael Tavares is the leading goalscorer in the history of Amazonas .
The goals arrived almost at once. In his first season at the club he finished as top scorer in Série D with 11 goals, sharing the award with Ítalo. His contract was extended in December 2023 for the 2024 season.
He had won a Série D title once before, in 2020, with Mirassol .
Little of the earlier career looked like it was heading there. Born in São Manuel, in the interior of São Paulo state, he spent both of those years out on loan at Sertãozinho and Marília. What followed was a long circuit of Brazilian football: Luverdense across two spells, Goiás in 2014 — a year in which he was also loaned to Aparecidense and Paysandu before moving to América de Natal — then Avenida, Rio Branco-PR, ASA, two loan stints at Linense either side of Rio Claro, and São José-RS from 2019.
Botafogo-SP, in 2021 and 2022, was the last stop before Manaus. Left-footed, 175cm, he arrived at the club where the record now stands in his name.
