About the player
Sveinn Hauksson took a route few Icelandic players of his generation follow: after building a name for himself in the Besta deild, he left for California to study and play college soccer for the UCLA Bruins.
He came through at Dalvik/Reynir before a loan, and then a permanent move, took him to KA Akureyri in October 2019. He passed 100 league appearances and scored more than 15 goals, and was part of the side that won the Icelandic Cup in 2024. His time in the United States was brief: one season at UCLA, seventeen matches, three goals and an assist.
He returned to Iceland in February 2025 and joined Víkingur Reykjavík as a free agent. Víkingur won the league title and the Icelandic Super Cup that same year. In April 2026 he went back to KA Akureyri on loan until July, then returned to Víkingur, where he has made seventeen league appearances and scored four goals, also featuring in the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and the Icelandic Cup.
