Víkingur Reykjavík

Víkingsvöllur seats 1,149 people, with standing room pushing capacity toward 2,000 on a full night. The ground has stayed that size through everything the club has done on it, trophies included.

Víkingur were formed in Reykjavík on 21 April 1908 and have played in red and black stripes ever since — black at home as the alternate kit, white away, red again for European nights. The team goes by Víkingar, or simply Vikes.

Two of the club's earliest championships came in 1920 and 1924, and Víkingur won back-to-back titles for the first time in 1981 and 1982, adding a Super Cup alongside them. Between 1957 and 2012, all the same, the team moved repeatedly between the top flight and the second division, before results turned for good in 2013. League titles followed in 2021, 2023 and 2025, and that second one came in the same year Víkingur became the first Icelandic club to reach a European play-off round, in the UEFA Conference League.

The cup record has moved the same way: a single win in 1971, then four more between 2019 and 2023, with Super Cups added in 2022 and 2024. KR Reykjavík remain the closest rival, their meetings part of the wider Reykjavík derby that also draws in Valur and Fram. Kolbeinn Sigþórsson and Kári Árnason both came up through the club's own ranks before their careers took them elsewhere.

That run left Víkingur with eight Icelandic championships in total.
