About the player
Sem van Duijn built his reputation on throw-ins. Journalists in the Netherlands nicknamed him "ingooikoning" — the throw-in king — for turning long throws into a genuine attacking weapon.
He started out at amateur side Quick Boys, where he spent three years in the Tweede Divisie and scored 19 goals in 64 league appearances. He was even more productive in the Dutch Cup, scoring four goals in six matches for the club, including a brace against De Graafschap and a penalty-shootout goal against AZ Alkmaar.
AZ signed him in the summer of 2024, handing him his first professional contract, and placed him with the reserve side Jong AZ. He scored 15 goals in 43 Eerste Divisie appearances in his first season. In February 2025 he made his debut in the UEFA Europa League, coming on in the 89th minute as AZ beat Galatasaray 4-1 in the round of 16. A further first-team appearance in European competition followed.
In January 2026, he moved to Eredivisie side Telstar on a loan without an option to buy. He has yet to be called up to the senior Dutch national team, though his throw-in ability has occasionally been floated in the press as a reason he might one day get a look.
