About the player
Samy Jr Merheg's route into professional football rarely stayed in one country for long. He began training at Salam Zgharta's academy in Lebanon at the age of seven, then took up a scholarship in Spain, turning out for Marcet Foundation, Tecnofútbol, Sant Cugat FC and UE Cornellà before returning to Colombia. In 2022 he signed for Rosario Central in Argentina, but the move fell through and he went back to Colombia instead.
Deportivo Pereira gave him his opening. He scored eight goals in five appearances for the club's under-17 side and five more for the under-20s, numbers that carried him into the first team. 2025 was different: 29 appearances and eight goals across league and cup. He left Pereira as a free agent once the club ran into financial trouble.
He has made two appearances in the Primeira Liga since, without scoring.
Lebanon called him up in November 2024. By the end of 2025 he had scored seven goals in twelve appearances for the national side.
