29 de Setiembre

In July 2012, when 29 de Setiembre took the field against Sportivo Luqueño at the Estadio Felisiano Cáceres, the match ended 1-1, a friendly between neighbours from the same city. Sportivo Luqueño is the only major professional side in Luque.

The club itself carries its name from a date, not a place: 29 September marks the end of the Battle of Boquerón, fought during Paraguay's Chaco War, and the founders folded that date straight into the name when they formed the club on 30 April 1942. It has stayed in Barrio Molino ever since, the same neighbourhood that gave the team its nickname, Los Lechugueros — the lettuce sellers, after the trade that once defined the district.

Honours have been rare and modest. The club won the Primera División B Metropolitana, Paraguay's third tier, in 2011, and has spent most of its recent seasons back in that same division after a spell in the División Intermedia in 2012; in 2025 it finished 12th. A different sort of title came in 2023, when the futsal side took the Copa de Oro. That year's football squad included defender Pablo Meza, who had come through General Díaz, Sol de América and Sportivo Luqueño and played for Paraguay's under-20 and under-23 sides before joining Los Lechugueros.

Matches now are against clubs like General Díaz, Sportivo Ameliano and 3 de Noviembre, the regular company of the lower leagues. Home games are played at the Estadio Salustiano Zaracho.
