Agricola Borcea

Agricola Borcea sit in Liga III, still riding out the aftermath of a Cupa României run that gave the small Călărași side more attention than most of its recent seasons combined. In 2024–25 the club reached the competition's group stage, beat CSM Slatina on penalties, and then took FCSB to task in December, losing 1-2 to a club that plays in a different world of budgets and crowds.

The club dates back to 1980, and for most of its history it stayed in the lower reaches of Călărași county football. It took until 2016–17 to win Liga IV in the county and step up to Liga III for the first time, a promotion that remains its only honour.

Marius Bratu took charge in the summer of 2024, a former goalkeeper who played for Rapid, Astra Giurgiu and FCM Bacău before moving into coaching; he had left CS Dinamo that April. He built a squad carrying more first-division experience than a club this size usually attracts. Victor Rîmniceanu, the goalkeeper, won the Romanian title with Viitorul Constanța back in 2017 and, at 34, gave the side an old head between the posts for the FCSB game. Denis Ispas, a 32-year-old centre-back with spells at Universitatea Cluj, Farul and Dunărea Călărași, added further top-flight know-how to the back line.

Home matches are played at Stadionul Central, also known locally as Stadionul Comunal Borcea. Its registered capacity is 800, though local reports around the FCSB tie described a ground swelled with temporary standing room well beyond that figure for the occasion.

What the club still lacks is any silverware beyond that single county championship, and even its identity remains loosely defined: no officially recorded club colours or crest have surfaced, leaving Agricola Borcea, for now, a team better known for one cup night than for anything fixed about how it presents itself.
