Alcazar

Martín Monteagudo came through Alcázar de San Juan as a midfielder and went on to manage Albacete, which is about as far up the ladder as anyone from this club's recent past has been.

It began in 1972 as an attempt to bring back an older Gimnástico, the one formed in 1921 and dissolved in 1949. Alcázar Club de Fútbol, a separate side, ran from 1953 to 1975 and is not the same story.

In 2004–05 Gimnástico won the Castilla-La Mancha phase of the Copa RFEF, beating Tomelloso 2-0 in the first leg and drawing 0-0 in the second. The title sent them into the national phase, where Benidorm knocked them out. They lost the regional final in 2006 to Puertollano and again in 2008 to Daimiel. That same 2004–05 season also took them to the promotion play-offs for Segunda División B, as 1991–92 had, and both times they went out in the first round.

In 2015 Gimnástico finished second from bottom in the Tercera División and the club dissolved. Supporters did not go away. Sporting de Alcázar CF was set up that year as a non-profit body, took over the fan base and the Estadio Municipal, and has since played in the Primera Autonómica Preferente. It holds none of the old club's legal sporting history and has yet to win a regional title of its own. Nobody in a Sporting shirt has played in a promotion play-off.
