Talayuela
Club · Spain · Copa del Rey
Rodri Sánchez, born in Talayuela in 2000, took his first steps in football with CP Talayuela. He then passed through the academies of Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona. With Real Betis he won the Copa del Rey in 2022 and played for Spain's under-21 side. In 2024 he moved to the Qatari club Al-Arabi. The following year the town's sports city was renamed in his honour.
The club he started at is much older than his career. It was founded in 1979 as Club Polideportivo Atalaya, and it kept that name for ten years. From 1989 to 1993 it played as Cetarsa Talayuela, then took the name it has today.
Its best stretch came in the 1980s. After finishing third in the Regional Preferente in 1983–84, Talayuela reached the Tercera División, the fourth tier, for the first time in 1984. It never won the league or the promotion playoffs. In the regional Preferente it finished second three times: in 1985–86, in 1989–90 and in 2003–04.
The fixtures that matter most are local. Talayuela sits in the Campo Arañuelo, and its main opponent is CD Moralo, the other side in the Derby Comarcal. Across the border of the neighbouring La Vera region the rival is CF Jaraíz.
The team wears blue shirts and white shorts at home, and red away.
