Ambrosiana

Giuseppe Meazza was the captain, and in 1929–30 he scored 31 goals as the club won the first Serie A played as a single league table. Juventus and Genoa finished behind them. Árpád Weisz was the coach that season. Meazza later won the World Cup with Italy in 1934 and 1938.

That side carried the name Ambrosiana, and it did so against its will. In 1928 the Fascist regime ordered the club, founded in 1908 as Internazionale, to merge with Unione Sportiva Milanese and drop a name it judged too cosmopolitan. For one season the players wore white shirts with a red cross and a fasces, and were called the Biancorossi. The black and blue came back in 1929–30. In 1931 "Inter" was added to the name, a concession to the fans, who had never stopped using it.

From 1930 they played at the Arena Civica, which held between 20,000 and 30,000 in those years. There they won two more league titles, in 1937–38 and 1939–40. Armando Castellazzi won the 1938 title at 33, the youngest coach to do so in Serie A. Tony Cargnelli added the 1939 Coppa Italia, beating Novara 2–1 in the final.

The city rivalry ran one way for a decade. AC Milan won none of the derbies against Ambrosiana-Inter between 1928 and 1938, 17 matches in all. The old name returned on 27 October 1945, and the club has been Internazionale again since then.
